Algerian parliament on Tuesday appointed Abdelkader Bensalah as interim president, after the resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika last week.

According to the state-run ENTV television channel, 453 out of 487 parliament members voted for the vacancy of the president post, and named Bensalah, president of the Council of the Nation, as interim president for a period of three months before electing a new president, in accordance with the constitution.
