The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir, has stressed the importance of deepening the partnership between Sudan and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), based in Geneva, noting to the importance of the intellectual property, and its tools in the economic, social and cultural role in the country.
During his meeting Sunday at his office at the Republican Palace, with WIPO Deputy Director, General John Sandage, Dr. Kibir has called on the organization to support the intellectual property in Sudan and to cooperate in the spreading of the culture of intellectual property field, and patents in the country through capacity building.
The Registrar General of the Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice, Adul-Khalid Hilal, noted in a press statement that the visit of Mr. Sandage to the country has witnessed intensive activities, during which he met with the Minister of Justice, and held a workshop on capacity building and patents, the way for the transfer from the local to the international level via the Sudan’s membership in the Convention for Cooperation in Patents, the outcome of registration and protection in the national, regional and international levels, and the role of the patent in technology transfer.
Hilal pointed out that the visit of the WIPO Deputy Director General John Sandage to the Sudan comes in response to an invitation from the Minister of Justice, extended last September.
On his part, Mr. John Sandage has appreciated the progress in intellectual property in the Sudan and support of the state for the promotion of the intellectual property and the use of its tools.
