Egypt, Kenya discuss GERD negotiations

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday 17/3/2020 discussed in a phone call with his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta the latest developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

During the phone conversation, the Kenyan leader expressed his support of the positive position that Egypt adopted in the GERD talks hosted by Washington, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

Kenyatta also lauded the sustained progress in relations with Egypt in different fields, the spokesman added.

On his part, President Sisi said that Egypt is keen on fostering cooperation with Kenya in various areas, notably trade exchange, infrastructure development, technical support and capacity building, the spokesman noted.

President Sisi explained that Cairo highly values the Kenyan supportive stance of Egypt in the GERD negotiations, underling the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation among Nile Basin countries.
