Kenya and Namibia to promote bilateral relations

Namibia and Kenya have agreed to consolidate their diplomatic and economic ties for the future, a Kenyan diplomat said Thursday.

“At the international level, Namibia supports Kenya’s bid for a seat on the Security Council, in return for which Kenya supports all Namibia’s international relations policies. This support is fundamental to our two nations and our relations will continue to strengthen through such commitments, “said Kenya’s ambassador to Namibia, Benjamin Langat.

Mr Langat also reiterated that Namibia and Kenya are actively defending the improvement of relations through the huge continental African free trade agreement, aimed at boosting intra-continental trade.

“I must admit, however, that despite efforts to promote the Free Trade Area Agreement in Africa, trade relations are still lagging behind,” he said.

Langat added that Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s official visit to Namibia, which will take place next week for the independence celebrations, attests to the development of relations between the two countries.
